Several absences rest on shallow searches. Reddit was blocked, YouTube was not searched, and esolangs.org's category and search pages refused automated access, so the claim that no other compositional, executable magic-circle language exists rests on GitHub, Hacker News (Algolia), itch.io, the web and Japanese-language searches, not on an exhaustive sweep. The Witch Hat Atelier fan projects are a fast-moving 2026 snapshot; their README and docs were rechecked, but not their source code, star count, or forks beyond five, and nobody checked what cogerk's Mystical "interpreter" actually interprets. The only prior work this builds on is an earlier, unpublished exploration of grading drawn-circle quality.
Primary sources are missing for much of the history and fiction. No VIPR paper was retrieved, so its guard notation and data model are unknown. Llull, Agrippa and Spare were read through the Stanford Encyclopedia, a practitioner blog and a quoted passage; Rithmatics, Witch Hat Atelier, Mahouka and Fullmetal Alchemist through fan wikis, not the books or manga. Noita and Magicka mechanics come from fan wikis and Wikipedia, not game code, and Noita's iteration limit was never read. Street Fighter 6 frame data is community testing, not Capcom's. Game claims about precision scaling (War of Wizards, Lost Magic, The Magus Circle) are store text and reviews, not measured behaviour.
On the recognition side, no study calibrates VLMs on drawing neatness, no VR controller-noise or latency-tolerance data was found, and the aesthetic and handwriting-quality papers were read at abstract level only. The SketchJudge human baseline is three non-expert raters on 160 answers. FlowLearn's VLM numbers are 2024-era models, and newer frontier models are likely better at counting, though no 2026 hand-drawn-specific numbers turned up. The design pass's parameters (q_floor, κ, the 400 ms pen-up gap, the 0.85 coverage threshold, pairs needed for calibration, bridges per wheel) are untested starting points, and no part of any design has been built.
